✍️Author and Background

Author: Moses (traditional view)

Date: Around 1445–1400 BC

Setting: Egypt → Sinai Peninsula

Time Span: Around 80 years (from Moses' birth to the building of the Tabernacle).

ЁЯХК️Purpose of Exodus

To show how God redeems His people and makes them His own.

It's a story of freedom, faith, and fellowship.

Through Moses, God:

  • ✅ Delivers His people from bondage.
  • ✅ Reveals His divine law.
  • ✅ Dwells among them through the Tabernacle.

Section Chapters Focus Summary
1. Israel in Egypt 1–13 Deliverance Slavery, plagues, Passover, Exodus
2. Journey to Sinai 14–18 Freedom Red Sea, manna, water, Jethro's visit

ЁЯПЧ️1. Israel in Egypt (Chapters 1–13)

Slavery and Oppression (Exodus 1)

Israel grows in number; a new Pharaoh enslaves them.

Pharaoh orders the killing of Hebrew baby boys.

But God preserves baby Moses, who grows up in Pharaoh's palace.

The Call of Moses (Exodus 3–4)

God appears in the burning bush at Mount Horeb.

Reveals His name: "I AM WHO I AM" (Yahweh).

Sends Moses to deliver Israel.

The Ten Plagues (Exodus 7–12)

God displays His power over Egypt's gods through ten plagues, ending with:

  • ЁЯй╕ The death of the firstborn.
  • ЁЯй╕ The institution of the Passover — where the blood of a lamb protected each home.

The Passover foreshadows Christ, our Passover Lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7).

The Exodus (Exodus 12–13)

Pharaoh lets them go after the final plague.

The Israelites depart with God's presence leading them — a pillar of cloud by day, fire by night.

ЁЯМК2. Journey to Sinai (Chapters 14–18)

Crossing the Red Sea (Exodus 14)

Pharaoh's army chases Israel.

God parts the Red Sea; Israel walks on dry ground.

Pharaoh's army is drowned — the greatest deliverance miracle in the Old Testament.

"The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."
— Exodus 14:14

The Song of Moses (Exodus 15)

The first recorded worship song in Scripture — celebrating victory.

God's Provision in the Wilderness (Exodus 16–17)

Manna and quail for food.

Water from the rock at Rephidim.

God shows He can sustain His people even in the desert.

Jethro's Visit (Exodus 18)

Moses' father-in-law helps him organize leadership.

A model for wise delegation and teamwork.

ЁЯПФ️3. Covenant at Sinai (Chapters 19–40)

The Giving of the Law (Exodus 19–24)

God descends on Mount Sinai in thunder and fire.

Gives the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20) — moral foundation for God's people.

Confirms the Sinai Covenant — "You shall be My treasured possession."

1–4
Relationship with God
5–10
Relationship with others

The Golden Calf (Exodus 32)

While Moses is on the mountain, Israel builds a golden calf idol.

Moses intercedes for them — God shows mercy but also justice.

This moment reveals God's holiness and patience.

The Tabernacle (Exodus 25–40)

God instructs Moses to build the Tabernacle, a portable sanctuary.

It symbolizes God dwelling among His people.

Every item points to Christ:

  • ЁЯУж Ark of the Covenant → God's throne
  • ЁЯХп️ Lampstand → Light of the world
  • ⛪ Altar → Atonement
  • ЁЯкЯ Veil → Christ's body, torn for us (Hebrews 10:20)
